VEEDERSBURG – Raymond A. Mitchell, age 82, father of Max Mitchell of Veedersburg Rt. 3, died Friday evening, Oct. 17, at his home about one mile north of Elmdale. Mr. Mitchell, a life-long resident of the Elmdale Community, had been in failing health for the last nine years. He had driven a school bus for Coal Creek Township, Montgomery County, for over 36 years. In addition he farmed, and was well-known for his prize corn exhibits for which he received many trophies and ribbons. Mr. Mitchell was born Feb. 4, 1887, the son of Jonathan and Nennie Wilson Mitchell. He was first married to Cora James in 1906 and she preceded him in death, and in Dec. of 1911, he married Lula Belle Rogers of Wallace. He was a member of the Center Christian Church. He also was affiliated with Wingate’s IOOF Lodge before the organization’s dissolution. Surviving, in addition to the wife, are: six sons, Clair, Paul, Charles and John, all of the Wingate area, William of Waynetown and Max of Veedersburg Rt. 3; three daughters, Mrs. Ernestine Fulwider of Crawfordsville, Mrs. Frances Shelley of New Ross and Mrs. Clara Miller of Crawfordsville Rt. 1; two sisters, Mrs. Pearl Lyons of near New Richmond and Mrs. Opal Bunnell of Waynetown; 23 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Juanita Lyons; an infant son, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Servies-Thomas Funeral Home at Waynetown. The Rev. Homer Hunsinger of Lebanon officiated and burial was in the Oakland Cemetery. – jlr
