DWIGHT "Shorty" MILLER

LADOGA – Dwight “Shorty” Miller, 80, longtime resident of the Ladoga-New Market area, died early Saturday in the Golden Manor Nursing Home in Ladoga. He had been in failing health the past six years. Mr. Miller was born June 24, 1889, near Jewett, Ill., a son of Manford and May Hamilton Miller. He was one of 17 brothers and sisters, 10 of whom survive. He was married May 18, 1946, to Ethel F. Delano at New Market. Mr. Miller was a retired carpenter and was a World War I veteran. He had lived in the Ladoga-New Market area the past 20 years. Survivors include the widow of Ladoga; a step-daughter, Mrs. Neal Gardner of Marion, Ind.; a step-son, Gerald Martin of Crawfordsville; two sisters Mrs. Iva Webb of Newton, Ill., and Mrs. Bonnie Kingery of Charleston, Ill.; eight brothers, Dara and Bernard, both of Detroit, Mich., Ira of Montrose, Ill., Forrest of Champaign, Ill., James of Decatur, Ill., Frank and Donald, both of Dieterich, Ill., and John of Newton; three step-grandsons; three step-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Gephart Funeral Home in Ladoga. Rev. Dan Chambers will officiate. Burial will be in Indian Creek Hill Cemetery near New Market. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Sunday. – jlr
