James William Miles, better known as Uncle Billy Miles died at  the home of his daughter, Mrs. Winfield Green on Friday. Funeral  services on Sun. morning at Union were conducted by Elder  Montgomery Canine of Crawfordsville. Interment in Union Cemetery  Mr. Miles was the son of George and Pauline Thorne Miles and was  born on the Washington Rice farm, near Dowden schoolhouse in  1838. Had he lived until the day of his funeral he would have  been 81 years old. He grew to manhood amid pioneer conditions. He  marr. Miss Jane Skelton. To them were b. 8 children, of whom  seven survive: Mrs. John Wilson of Indianapolis; Mrs. Winfield  Green of Freedom; Mrs. John Sutherlin of Russellville; Alfred  Miles of Ridge Farm, Ill; John Miles of Danville; Harvey Miles of  Russellville and Jesse Miles of this place. Mrs. Arlie Shaffer is  dead and the mother passed away several years ago. Mr. Miles was  a farmer, and lived for many years on the farm now owned by FM  Connor. Of his brothers and sisters, three are living: John Miles  and Mrs. Polly Morning of this place and Benjamin Miles of  Marshall. - typed by kbz
