Messmore - Abigail Hunt

Mrs. Abigail Messmore, widow of Andrew Messmore, died at the home of William Messmore, a son who lives on the old home place, near Mellott, this morning at half-past 7. Mrs. Messmore's death was due to a complication of diseases, as she was 86 years old. Mr. and Mrs. Messmore moved here from near Liberty, in Union County, about 50 years ago, and for a period of 4 or 5 years lived NW of this city about 5 miles then moved to a farm near Mellott, about 15 years ago. Their son, William, lived with them until the husband of the deceased died. Since then, Mrs. Messmore has lived with her son as he took charge of the farm after his father died. Mrs. Messmore was a woman of many excellent traits of character and was admired by all who knew her. Prior to her marriage she was Abigail Hunt and was the daughte of Charles and Mary Hunt of Union Couty. She was the mother of Mrs. Mary Stout and Mrs. Emaline Stout of near Wesley, Mrs. John Cowan of near the Breaks school house, Mrs. Martha Brown of Mellott, Mrs. Alvin Breaks and Mrs. David Jackson who are twin sisters, and John Messmore of this city, Henry Messmore of Veedersburg, Wilson Messmore and William Messmore of near Mellott. Mrs. Alvin Breaks is quite ill and her condition is such that she will not be told at the present time of her mother's death. The funeral of Mrs. Messmore will take place at the Mellott Church on wednesday morning at 11 and the interment will take place at Newtown Cemetery.
