Naomi M. Merrell, 89, Crawfordsville, died 9:47 a.m. Friday in Ben Hur Nursing Home. Mrs. Merrell retired in 1980 from J.C. Penneys, where she had worked for 17 years. She was a 1934 Crawfordsville High School graduate and First Baptist Church member. She was born May 11, 1915, at Crawfordsville, to Benjamin and Mary Wray Miller. She married John Donald Merrell June 14, 1940, at Crawfordsville. He died Dec. 19, 1995. Survivors include one son, John M., Crawfordsville; and two sisters, Betty Bell, Crawfordsville, and Mildred Lane, New Market. A sister Claire Bennett died in 2001. Funeral services are scheduled 2 p.m. Thursday in Powers-Priebe Funeral Home, 315 S. Washington St., with the Rev. Velma Keesling officiating. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery, Waynetown.
