-- John D. Merrell, 87, life long farmer of the Waynetown community, died at 4:45 o'clock Tuesday monring at the home of his son, Ancel Merrell, four miles northeast of Waynetown. Mr. Merrell had been ill 3 days with a heart ailment. Born near Waynetown, August 1, 1860, Mr. Merrell was the son of Mr. and Mrs. David Merrell, pioneers in the community. His mother died 3 months after his birth and he was reared in the house of Philip and Sarah Hauk near here. Mr. Merrell was married in September 1885 to Maggie Johnson of Waynetown. She died in 1944. Since her death he has resided with his sons. In addition to the son at whose home he died, Mr. Merrell is survived by three other sons, Hugo Merrell of Crawfordsville, Avery Merrell of Elmdale and Reuben Merrell of Muncie. There are also 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Guy Tremaine from Grenard and Servies Funeral Home in Waynetown at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon. Burial was made in the Masonic Cemetery here.
