LINDEN - Mrs. L. Marie Mennen, 81, of 1008 N. 21st St., Lafayette, died at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday in Home Hospital at Lafayette where she had been a patient since Sunday. She had been in ill health for three years. She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church at Lafayette. Born March 4, 1895, at Colfax, she was a daughter of Oscar and Emma Penrod Strain. She moved to Lafayette when she was 18. She married Gerald Mennen in 1916 at Lafayette. He was a farmer in the Linden area who died in 1960. She lived at Linden from 1952 to 1963 when she moved back to Lafayette. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. W. Curtis (Helen) Vanderkleed of Battle Ground, Lucille Mennen at home, Mrs. Douglas (Eleanor) Wakeman of Union Mills, Mrs. Willard (Velma) Redding of Frankfort and Mrs. Howard (Thelma) Guse of Wanatah; two sons, Donald R. of Kirklin and Paul K. of Linden; a brother, Ralph Strain of Lafayette; 21 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Services will be in Hippensteel Funeral Home Chapel at Lafayette at 1 p.m. Saturday with the Revs. Jacob Hoffman and Henry Stolleorf officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday. - jlr
