- Grace Melvin Of Alamo Succumbs; Funeral Friday- ALAMO- Mrs. Grace Adeline Melvin, 82, a resident of Alamo since 1927, died at 1:15 a.m. Wednesday at the Sanders Nursing Home at Mecca, where she had resided since last November. Born June 10, 1880, at Galesburg, Ill., Mrs. Melvin was the daughter of Franklin and Bertha Welsh Jones. She received her early education in Galva, Ill., and attended Wesley Business College in Salina, Kan. Mrs. Melvin was married Aug. 12, 1906, to August F. Melvin at Paola, Kan. He died in February 1927. The deceased was a member of the Yountsville Methodist Church and Order of Eastern Star Chapter 498 at Alamo. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Tom Bowerman of Alamo; three sons, Harold Melvin, 605 Walnut St., Crawfordsville, Howard Melvin of Rt. 1, Waynetown, and Leland (Bill) Melvin of Clinton; two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Hays of Downey, Calif., and Mrs. Ada Dunn of Bakersfield, Calif.; 12 grandchildren, and one great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Richard Coon in 1940; a son, Charles Melvin in 1920; a sister, Mrs. Lollie Morraine, and a brother, Wallace Jones. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Servies Funeral Home in Waynetown in charge of Rev. Guy E. Tremaine. Burial will be in the Alamo Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.
