Alamo - Clyde Melvin, 84, Rt 3, Crawfordsville died at 4:10 a.m. today in Culver Hospital, Crawfordsville. Mr. Melvin was a retired farmer and had been trustee of Ripley Township for two terms. He was an ordained elder of the Alamo Christian Church where he had been a member 63 years. He was a graduate of Alamo HS. He was born Oct 7, 1894 in Finney Co KS to Charles H and Emma Dike Melvin. On June 1, 1916 he was married to the former Beatrice VanCleave who survives. Other survivors are three sons, Hobert Melvin of Toledo, Ohio; Red Melvin of Alamo and Leslie "Sprout" Melvon of Rt 1, Waynetown; a daughter, Mrs. Maxine Elson of Scottsdale, Az; a brother, Howard Melvin of Aqualia, Colo; 20 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren and a great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by four brothers, a sister and two grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Thomas Funeral Home with burial in Alamo. - kbz
