David Meharry, the venerable resident of Shawnee Mound, is lying at the point of death with the grippe. Last night he was very low and his death was expected at any moment. Mrs. Elma C. Whitehead, his daughter, is also very ill with congestion of the lungs and her recovery is regarded as doubtful.—Lafayette Courier

Wingate, Dec. 5—David Meharry, aged 85 years, died this morning at 7 o’clock at his residence on Shawnee Prairie. He received a paralytic stroke several days ago and never rallied.
David Meharry was one of the oldest and most respected citizens of this section of the state. He came of a prominent family and was one of the pioneers of Shawnee Prairie, where he lived for many years.
He recently celebrated his 85th birthday at the World’s Fair.
David Meharry was the father of Mrs. Elma C. Whitehead, whose prominence in the Pettit murder case is so well known. Mr. Meharry was a very prominent Methodist and leaves quite a valuable estate.
The funeral of Mr. Meharry will occur from the Shawnee Mound M. E. Church on Thursday at 10 a.m.

The funeral of the late David Meharry took place at Shawnee Mound yesterday and was conducted by Rev. A. A. Gee and Rev. W. E. McKenzie. A large attendance was present.
