Meek - Velma Calvert

Mrs. Velma Ione “Peggy” Meek, 68, of 307 Englewood Drive, died Thursday afternoon in her home after a sudden illness. She and her husband had operated a bakery at Wabash. She was a member of the First Christian Church. Mrs. Meek was born Aug. 11, 1906, at Shannondale, a daughter of Henry Elbert and Iva Chambers Calvert. She was educated in Darlington, Whitesville and Ladoga schools. She married Robert E. Meek on March 1, 1924, at Crawfordsville. He died in July, 1962. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Peggy Diane Wiram of Indianapolis; a sister, Mrs. Raymond Harris of Crawfordsville; three brothers, Floyd and Wayne Calvert of Crawfordsville and Frank Calvert of New Ross; a half-brother, Donald Gobel of Crawfordsville; a granddaughter, Misty Suzanne Wiram of Indianapolis; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Burkhart Funeral Home with the Rev. Howard C. Miller officiating. Burial will be in St. James Lutheran Cemetery at Darlington.
