Marshall - Rondall Measel, 19 year old Wabash College student from Marshall drowned late Sun in Sugar Creek where he stepped into deep water while with a couple of friends who were swimming in a stretch of the stream called The Narrows. The tragedy occurred about 4:05 pm,. while Measel was with Wm. Paddock of Marshall and Wm. Dickerson of Bloomingdale - all 3 former TRHS classmates. Officers investigating the drowning and working to recover the body reported Measel could not swim. His friends said they went to his rescue when he stepped into water over his head but that he fought off their efforts to help him. State police said the drowning occurred within the property of Turkey Run State Park ... --– kz

Water accidents in Indiana took the lives of five boys this weekend … Rondal Measel, 19, a Wabash College student from Marshall, drowned in Sugar Creek near Turkey Run State Park yesterday when he became tired and fought off efforts of two friends to help him. Parke County Sheriff Charles Cooper said Measel died in the 20-foot deep “narrows,” one of the creek’s deepest spots. --– kz
