Basil A. Meadows, 71 of Rt 3 was fatally stricken Wednesday afternoon while driving his car not far from his home in the Yountsville community. Deputy Sheriff Blaine Baker, called at 2:00 p.m. to just west of the Sugar Creek bridge at Yountsville, reported the Meadows auto had been easbound and that a witness, Don Butchett of Alamo, driving behind him, saw no one at the wheel just before the car left the road. The auto ran off Ind 32 on the north side into a ditch and against some small trees. Burchett stopped, found Meadows slumped over in the seat and called for help. An ambulance brought Meadows to Culver Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Dr. Samuel Millis county coroner, indicated he had had a heart attack prior to the accident. Damage to the left side and right front of the car was estimated at approximately $250 Baker said. A son of Hiram E. and Catherine Whiteman Meadows, he was born Sept 29, 1895 in Fountain County. He attended schools in Montgomery County and was married December 4, 1915 to Blanche R. Hatt at Danville, Ill. She died in Sept 1965. He farmed all his life in the two counties until retiring two years ago and moving to Yountsville. Surviving are four sons, Palmer of Linden; Paul of Waveland; Horace of Rt 1, Veedersburg and Robert of Rt 1, Crawfordsville; five daughters, Kathryn Newkirk of Indianapolis, Dorothy Dickerson of Crawfordsville, Lois Lewellen of Rt 12, Lafayette; Jewell Caldwell of Carpentersville, Ill; and Ruth Wilkinson of Crawfordsville; 38 grandchiildren and 28 great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Lawrence of Roachdale and Noble of Crawfordsville, and a sister, Mary Mullen of Lafayette. He was preceded in death by his wife; two daughters, Ruby Leonard and Betty Lou Meadows, and a son Kenneth Wayne Meadows. Funeral services are set for 1:30 p.m. Friday at Servies Funeral Home in Waynetown, Rev. John Servies will officiate and burial will be in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. - kbz

Funeral services for Basil A. Meadows, age 71 of Waynetown father of Horace Meadows of Veedersburg Rt 1 who died Wednesday April 5 after being stricken ill were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Servies Funeral Home in Waynetown. The Rev. John Servies officiated and burial was in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Mr. Meadows was en route to Crawfordsville when he became ill. He died in Culver Hospital there. He was born Sept 29, 1895, in Fountain County, the son of Hiram E. and Catherine Whiteman Meadows. He was married in Danville, Ill Dec 4, 1915 to Blanche R. Hiatt who preceded him in death in 1965. He was a retired farmer and a life resident of Fountain and Montgomery Counties. Surviving are four sons: Palmer of Linden; Paul of Waveland; Horace of Veedersburg Rt 1 and Robert of Crawfordsville; five daughters, Kathryn Newkirk of Indianapolis, Dorothy Dickerson of Crawfordsville, Lois Lewellen of Lafayette Rt 12, Ruth Wilkinson of Crawfordsville and Jewell Caldwell of Carpentersville, Ill.
