Miss Mary McMURTRY died on Friday evening. She has been in poor health for some months, but her condition was not considered serious until 4 days before her death and her sudden demise was a shock to the community. Funeral services at the home on Monday morning at 10, were conducted By Rev. JT Boyer. Interment at Bethany cemetery. Mary Elizabeth McMurtry, daughter of David and Martha was b. in Parke County January 2, 1860. About 16 years ago moved with her parents to Waveland where she resided until the end. She was a child of the covenant; blest with a Christian father, whose memory remains an inspiration to the church, with a mother whose serene faith we all know, she was brought up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. years ago she became a member of the Bethany Presbyterian church under the ministry of the Rev. Mr. Torrence and her faith has been steadfast and her life fruitful in all Christian virtues. It is recalled by friends that she was the first president of the Bethany C. E. Society. She rests from her labors, and her works follow her. The father has gone before; Thos of her family who abide are her mother, two sisters, Mrs. Margaret NOEL and Miss Sophronia, 3 brothers, William of Mexico, MO; James of Tulsa OK; and Clarence of Marshall, IN.
