McMains - Norman Lee

Norman L. McMains Sr., 61, general manager of Reliance Battery Products., died Wednesday at a local hospital following a short illness. McMains, who lived at 2201 S. 8th St., had been a resident of Council Bluffs since 1920. He was born in Waveland, Ind., and before coming to Council Bluffs was sales manager for Prest O Lite Co., Indianapolis, Ind. The Reliance firm was started here in 1920 by McMains in association with his wife and A. J. Meyer. In 1949 the partnership acquired Corn Belt Adhesives and McMains was head of both companies. McMains was a member of the Christian Church at Lenanon, Ind., a former member of the local Elks Club and a member of the Rotary Club. Survivors include: his widow, Eleanor S.; two sons, Norman L. McMains Jr. of Terre Haute, Ind., and Jack B. McMains of Council Bluffs; three daughters, Fran Le, at home, Mrs. Beverly A. McKee of Davenport and Mrs. Gwen Woodward of Council Bluffs. Other survivors include: two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth A. Davis of Crawfordsville, Ind., and Mrs. Mary E. Hartmann of Seattle, Wash.; three brothers, H. N. McMains of Plano, Ill., C. O. McMains of Lebanon, Ind., and G. W. McMains of Montrose, Ia. Funeral arrangements are pending with the Meyer Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
