McMains - John

John McMains was born near Waveland, Indiana June 16, 1831. His early life was spent on the farm, and for the most of his life his occupation was that of farming. On May 15, 1854 he was united in marriage to Mary E. Lee and to this union were born three children, two sons and one daughter. The oldest son preceded him to the Spirit land on Sept 20, 1886 and the wife and mother preceded him to rest on Sept 19, 1898. One son, Harry of Lebanon and Mrs. Jennie Hanna of Waveland, four brothers, five sisters, 8 grandchildren, together with a large circle of neighbors and friends still survive him. Mr. McMain united with the Christian Church in early life, and has lived a quiet Christian life throughout his whole career. He has been a good neighbor and friend to all with whom he was associated in life. He said to his children not long before his death, "I have no terrors of death." He departed this life Aug 25, 1909 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jennie Hanna in Waveland at the age of 78 years two months and 9 days. The funeral took place from the Christian Church Aug 27, and interment in Maple Ridge Cemetery. Services were conducted by Rev TJ Freed.
