Newtown – Grace Overman McKnight, 99 of Newtown died Thursday April 12, 2007 at Williamsport Health and Rehab Center following a lengthy illness. Born oct 31, 1907 to the late Frank and Rose Price Overman in Carthage, she was a 1925 graduate of Carthage HS and received her bachelor’s degree in education from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 1929. She was a member of Delta Omicron and Mortar Board while at the university. In 1930 she married Stuart L. McKnight in Indianapolis where they resided until 1942 when they moved to a farm in Richland Township. He was manger of the Newtown national Bank before preceding her in death in August 1972. Mrs. McKnight was the band and music director at Coal Creek Central School for 18 years. Surviving is a son, David S. McKnight of Newtown. Also surviving is a son-in-law Jerry Oxley of Lafayette. Preceding her in death were a daughter, Marcia Oxley; grandson John Oxley; 2 sisters, Josephine Shumpert and Helen McGruder; and 2 brothers, Julian and Jack Overman. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Family & Friends Funeral Home of Wingate, Pastor Harold Hold officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until service time. Interment will take place at 9 a.m. Monday at Rest Haven Memorial Park in Lafayette. Memorials may best be made to Newtown Community Church or Victory Fellowship of Hillsboro
