Darlington – Margaret McKinney, 73, of Darlington died at 8:22 p.m. Saturday in St. Elizabeth Hospital at Lafayette. Mrs. McKinney was a cook for over 32 years at Zach’s Family Restaurant. She was a 1943 graduate of Darlington HS and a graduate of the Indianapolis Beauty College. She was born Feb 17, 1925 at Alamo to Clarence D. and Lola McClure Steele. She married James Bliss McKinney Nov 24, 1946. He died Oct 21, 1996. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. James (June – wrong Janie) Arnette of New Market; Mrs. Lawrence (Joyce) Peterman of Sellersburg; Mrs. John (Joan) Caldwell of Darlington and Nancy McKinney of Crawfordsville; four sons, James W. of Crawfordsville; Peter J. of Darlington and Donald R. and Jerry Joe, both of Crawfordsville; a sister, Dorothy Steele of Brazil; 16 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Three brothers, James, William and Robert Steele are also deceased. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday in Hunt & Son Funeral Home, 107 N. Grant Ave with Rev. Everett Davenport officiating. Entombment will be in Oak Hill Mausoleum at a later date. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Note: Margaret worked for us at our restaurants, A&W and later Zach's Family Restaurant. We adored this gal. What a worker and she was firm but nice to the teenagers who worked there as well as others (cooks, etc). We really so appreciated her charm, work ethics and her kids who worked for us too (know Joyce, Janie, and Pete did and think Jerry, too! Great family! RIP sweetie
