After a long and severe illness Rev. John Archbold McKee, a minister of the Presbyterian Church died at Thornton Home, Newburg, Monday evening at half past six o’clock, Mr. McKee was the son of Rev. Samuel V. McKee of Peoria, Ill for many years a prominent pastor in the banks of the Presbyterian minister. He gave his son a thorough training for the ministry which included the regular college course at Wabash and the Seminary course at Princeton, NJ and the Master’s degree in a special post graduate course from Princeton University.  Soon after his graduation Mr. McKee was married to Miss Clara Booth and the two went as missionaries to Siam. A severe attack of Asiatic cholera threatened the life of Mrs. McKee and they were obliged to return to America.  Since then he has served as pastor in Michigan and an agent of the American Bible Society with headquarters at Chicago.  His health completely giving way, Mr. McKee came with his wife and two children to reside at Thornton Home for rest and recuperation.  His death at the age of 41 years comes as a serious disappointment to those who had marked out for him a long career of great usefulness in the Presbyterian minister.  He leaves a wife and two children.  His aged father and his sister, wife of Rev. WM Elliott of Peoria, were with him at the time of his death.  A sister, Mrs. Julia Fuller is the wife of a missionary in Africa. The funeral will take place at Thornton Home some time tomorrow and the body will be taken to South Bend, Ind for burial.  The funeral services will be conducted by Rev. GW Williams of Newburg and Rev. John Kennedy of Evansville.  – kbz
