Waynetown Sept 7 - Mrs. Maxine McKee was notified today by the war department that her husband, Pfc. Gwendolyn McKee, age 32, was killed in action in France, August 23. A resident of this community the past 20 years, Pfc McKee entered service March 5, 1942 and went oversease 9 October 1943. He was sent to France July 16 after serving in Wales and England. Training in this country was at Camp Livington, LA; Camp Gordon Johnston, Fla and Camp PIckett, VA. Pfc. McKee was born April 9, 1912 at Veedersburg, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ransom McKee. He spent his boyhood in Veedersburg and Steam Corner, the family moving to Steam Corner before coming here. Since 1924 the family home has been on the Stanfield farm, south of Waynetown. Pfc. McKee married Miss Maxine Graves May 26, 1941. He was graduated from Waynetown HS in 1933, and was a member of the basketball team two years. After graduation he worked at the Bold Milling Company here, and later at the Aluminum plant in Lafayette where he was employed when he enlisted. Besides the widow, the parents also survive. He was the seventh from this community to give his life in service during World War II. --- typed by kbz

The body of Pfc. Gwendolyn McKee, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ransom McKee, of Veedersburg, but formerly of Waynetown is being returned from Europe on the US Army Transport Barney Kirschbaum, due to arrive sometime this month in NY. Parents of the serviceman, who was killed in action in France August 23, 1944, have been informed by the Army that their son's body is one of 6,785 being returned to the US on the Barney Birschbaum. The men who made the supreme sacrifice in WWII and are being returned, had been originally buried in temporary military cemeteries in France, Belgium, HOlland, Luxembourg and England. Pfc. McKee was sent to France Oct 9, 1943, after having been on duty in England and Wales for some time. He entered the service March 5, 1942, while employed with the Boldt Milling Company in Waynetown.
Born April 9, 1912 at Veedersburg, Pfc. McKee spent his boyhood in Veedersburg and Steam Corner. His parents moved to Waynetown from Steam Corner. Pfc. McKee, their only child, was graduated from Waynetown HS in 1933. He was a member of the basketball team at high school. Following graduation he was employed with the milling company with the aluminum plant in Lafayette. He had his army training at Camp Livingston, LA; Camp Gordon Johnston, Fla and Camp Pickett, VA before being shipped overseas.
Besides his parents, Pfc. McKee was survived by the widow, the former Miss Maxine Graves of Waynetown to whom he was married May 26, 1941. The widow has since been married and is now the wife of Maurice Fuller of Chalmers. The body of Pfc. McKee will be brought to the Grenard & Services Funeral home in Waynetown after arrival in New York City. No arrangements for funeral services and burial have been made.

Funeral services for Pfc. Gwendolyn McKee, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ransom McKee, will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Grenard Funeral Home in Waynetown. The body arrived in Waynetown Wednesday noon and was received by the Grenard Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Rockfield Cemetery near Veedersburg.
Pfc. Gwendolyn McKee died Aug. 23, 1944 in France. He was born in Veedersburg April 9, 1912, the son of Ransom and Retta Roberts McKee. He began his service with the armed forces March 5, 1942 and went overseas in July 1944. The parents reside here.
