Martha Elenor COOPER was born in Parke County, IN May 15, 1835 and died at her home in Waveland December 19, 1917.  She was the daughter of William and Mary Cooper who came from Old Point Comfort VA to Parke Co. in 1832.  Both her parents died when she was quite young, and she grew up in the home of Mr. & Mrs. William Strain.  On November 4, 1868 she was married to David W. McMURTRY, who died October 3, 1910.  She leaves two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Noel and Miss Sophronia, and three sons, William of Mexico, Mo; James of Tulsa OK; and Clarence of Marshall, IN.  Her oldest daughter, Mary having died nearly 3 weeks ago.  Early in life, Mrs. McMurtry united with the Presbyterian Church near Portland Mills and she has always been faithful to her Christian profession.  The funeral service was from the home on December 21st, conducted by her pastor, Rev. J. T. Boyer.  The burial was at Bethany cemetery.  - - typed by kbz

Mrs. McMURTRY, aged 82 years, died at her home near Waveland last Wednesday morning. She is survived by five children: Clarence, of Marshall; Will, of Mexico, Mo.; James of Tulsa Okla.; and Mrs. Margaret Noel and Sophronia at home. A sixth child, Mary, died two weeks ago. Mrs. McMurtry was born in Parke County, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William  Cooper, and moved to Waveland about seventeen years ago. She was a member of Waveland Presbyterian Church.
