McGilliard - Joseph Preston

Joseph Preston McGilliard died at 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon in Decatur and Macon county hospital where he had been for six weeks; his death was due to ailments incident to age. The body was taken to the undertaking rooms at J. J. Moran & Sons to await the funeral. J. P. McGilliard had been a resident of Decatur for the past six years making his home with his daughter, Mrs. F. W. Johnson, 2137 North Main street. He was born May 3, 1855 in Crawfordsville, Ind., and for many years was associated with the fraternal insurance organization, Tribe of Ben Hur, which was organized in that city; also he was associated with that company during a number of years when his home was in Terre Haute. J.P. was married to Elizabeth Southwell, May 1, 1884; her death occurred in 1910. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic church In Terre Haute and also a member of Knights of Columbus. He leaves his daughters: Mrs E. B. Kelly of Crawfordsvllle; Mrs. J. E. Wren of Michigan City; Mrs. F. W. Johnson of Decatur; his son, John S McGilliard of Detroit: his descendants included 16 grand children and one great grandchild. He leaves two sisters, Mrs. Susannah Vance, Crawfordsville and Mrs. John Hochweinder, Indianapolis. Funeral services will be at 9 o'clock Friday morning in St. Patrick's Catholic church in Terre Haute. The funeral party will leave Decatur this afternoon at 3:40 o'clock.
