On Saturday afternoon, September 24 the death angel called from our midst our believe wife and mother, Mrs. Clay McGaughey, Martha Ann, the second child of James and Sarah Normal Everman who was born Nov 12, 1859. Losing her father while still a small child, she acquired in early youth the sturdy qualities of pioneer life, which fitted her to become a good neighbor, a devoted wife and an affectionate mother. Feb 24, 1881 she was married to Clay McGaughey. To this union were born 8 children: Arthur McGaughey of Crawfordsville, Mrs. Ona Jarvis, Will McGaughey and Raymond McGaughey of Russellville, Mrs. Edith Byrd of Sputh Bend and Mrs. Inez Collings of Fincastle; Everett and Celia McGaughey dying in early childhood within 3 days of each other of diptheria. She was stricken with sugar diabetes over 12 years ago and has been a patient sufferer all these years cared for by her devoted husband who also survives with 14 grandchildren and one great grandchild; one sister, Mrs. Charles Webster; and two brothers, Charles and Joe Everman and a host of relatives and friends. She united with the old Hebron Church in her girlhood and later removed her membership to the Russellville Christian Church. We who are left to mourn her loss would not recall her to endure more pain. She gave us her loving care and unselfishness to the very last. When she knew that her time was coming to be called Home she talked and planned with all of us for her going. - transcribed by kbz
