Robert McFarland, 21, former Wabash College 3- letter athlete died Monday at Miami, Fla of acute pneumonia, according to word received here. His death followed an illness of 3 days, the message stated. "Bob" McFarland attended Wabash 3 years, attaining prominence as a LIttle Giant athlete. He won his "W" in three branches of athletics, football, basketball and track. He played a varsity guard positioni with Coach "Pete" Vaughn's football machine in 1923 and 1924; was varsity backguard and of the Little Giant basketball team and was a weight man on the track squad. He first won a reputation as a football and basketball player whil ein high school at Anderson, and 5 years ago was a member of the famous Anderson basketball team. He attended West Point Military Academy one year. McFarland returned to Wabash last fall but remained only about two weeks, leaving here for Florida where he spent the winter. His parents are residents of Alexandria, Ind. McFarland was a poular student while here and news of his death spread gloom among Wabash men Monday. McFarland was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. McFarland is said to have enjoyed considerable success in real estate activities during his stay in Florida. A giant in size and strength, it was natural tha the should excel in athletics. His genial, friendly disposition also served with his athletic prowess to make him popular with students, his instructors and the townspeople. - transcribed by kbz
