McCutchn - Elmer Morton

Elmer Morton McCutchan son of James Andrew McCutchan and Minerva Elizabeth Porter was born on a farm in Greene Twp, Parke County March 10, 1867 the oldest of 7 children of this family the surviving members one brother, Fulton and two sisters, Mrs. Almeda Goff and Mrs. Nellie McBride. These having passed on, William, John and the sister, Florence Clodfelter. Ine arly childhood he was baptized into the Associate Presbyterian Church and continued to live in that faith throughout his life. He was educated in the public schools of Parke County later attending Bloomingdale Academy and Terre Haute Business College after which he taught in his native county for 14 years. for the past 30 years he has been engaged in farming from which he derived a great amount of pleasure. He also served his township several years as trustee. On Nov 28, 1900 he was married to Elsie SPENCER who survives him. To this union 4 children were born: Winifred of Peoria, Illinois Wendall on the home farm; Mary, a teacher in the Indianapolis Public Schools and Marjorie, who with her husband, following his recent discharge from the service is in the family home. On egrandchild, Martha Lou McCutchan also survives as well as many nieces and nephews. Through the years he continued to be interested in the welfare of the community in which he lived. He will be greatly missed by all for his unselfishness and willingness to give aid and comfrot. "Yes, tho I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, i will fear no evil for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me." Impressive funeral services were held at the Waveland Christian Church on saturday, March 16 at 2 p.m. with HD Trickey and Rev. Robert Bond officiating. Interment was made in Portland Mills Cemetery. A program of soft music, played by Mr. NR Walker preceded and closed the service. Miss Martha Walker and Kenneth Coleman sang, "In the Garden and Inside the Gate." Assisting as pall bearers were Floyd James; George Albert; and Ray McCutchan and Howard Roberts. Floral arrangements were carried by Mrs. Elizabeth Coleman; Nancy J. Spencer; Lawrence Mccutchan; Mrs. Esther Ranstead; Mrs. Lena McBride; Martha Joan Spencer; Mrs. Mildred McCutchan; Mrs. Marion Hendrick; Mrs. Margaret McCormick; Mrs.Marjorie Reedy Grace; Mary Gibbs; Mrs. Edna Barker; Phyllis McCormick; Margaret aFordice; Mrs. Rosemary Coleman; Elizabeth Hazlett; Madeline McCormick; Lois Ewell; Jessie Lee Fordice; Carolyn Richardson; Dorothy Thomas; Wilma Hood and Joyce Fordice. -- transcribed by kbz
