Clifford J. McCullough, 74, retired Crawfordsville merchant, died Wednesday afternoon in Culver Hospital. He was taken to the hospital earlier in the day after becoming suddenly ill at his home in the Bel Aire Apartments, 210 W. Main St. A native of Montgomery county, Mr. McCullough was born near Browns Valley where he spent his childhood. His parents were Charles N. and Sarah E. Jarvis McCullough. He married Nell Grove, who preceded him in death. Mr. McCullough, who was active in the retail business of Crawfordsville for more than 30 years, operated the McCullough Women’s Apparel Shop from 1936 until 1957. Previously he managed women’s apparel stores for the Adler firm in Lebanon and Crawfordsville. He entered business in the early 1920s shortly after completing service in World War I. Mr. McCullough was a graduate of the Crawfordsville High School and an alumnus of Wabash College. He was a member of the First Christian Church and commander of Byron Cox Post of the American Legion in 1921. He was active in the affairs of the Legion several years. He also was a member of the Masonic and Elks lodges. Survivors include a son, Dan McCullough of New York City; a brother, Roy L. McCullough of New Palestine; a sister, Velma McCullough of East Chicago, and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Hunt and Son Funeral Home. Rev. Paul Million will be the officiating minister. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Friday. – jlr
