McCoy - Elizabeth Towell

Mrs. Elizabeth Powell (sic - should be Towell) McCOY of Park (sic) County, died Sunday. She was 105 years old August 15 last, having been born in Orange Co., NC August 15, 1811. She lived with her daughter, Mrs. Rachel Marks near Sylvania, Liberty Township for years. On the occasion of the celebration of Mrs. McCoy's one hundredth anniversary (sic), more than 500 relatives and friends gathered to pay her honor. Until recently she was active enough to move about the house, but devoted most of her energies to making quilts. She made and gave to her descendants more than 40 quilts. One recently made by her was exhibited at Centennial Celebration of Liberty Township in August. Her last illness was of short duration, following a fall in which her hip was fractured. - kbz
