Mrs. Sarah McCoy, wife of J.H. McCoy, died at her home on West Wabash avenue, Saturday morning at at 7 o’clock, after a lingering illness from consumption. The maiden name of the deceased was Sarah E. Kerr. She was born in 1849 at Shawnee Mound, Tippecanoe county, where she resided until October 2, 1873, when she was married to John H. McCoy. They removed to Lafayette in 1882, where they lived until the Spring of 1884, when they removed to this city, Mr. McCoy having purchased half interest in the hardware establishment with W. W. Seawright. Mrs. McCoy had been in delicate health for several years, and for eleven weeks preceding her death had been confined to the house, and the greater part of the time to her bed. She suffered patiently in the hope of eternal reward hereafter. She was a zealous, earnest member of the Methodist church and was at the time of her death and Secretary of the Ladies’ Aid Society of that organization in this city. The funeral services were held at the family residence Sunday at 8 o’clock by Rev. Alfred Kummer. The remains were taken to Shawnee cemetery Monday for interment. Services at Shawnee church were conducted by Rev. I. H. Claypool, of LaFayette, Rev. G. W. Switzer, of Shawnee Mound, and Rev. A. Kummer, of this city. Mr. Claypool is the minister who pronounced the marriage ceremony fourteen years ago. ---dkd
