Dr. John Charles McCORMICK for 46 years a practicing dentist
of Crawfordsville died suddenly at his home here Friday morning.
Dr. McCormick's death was believed caused by a heart attack. Dr.
McCormick's death came unexpectedly and occurred shortly before
he had breakfasted with Mrs. McCormick and Miss Maude Foster who
for some time has made her residence at the McCormick home. He
was stricken in his room as he was preparing to leave for his
office with a basket of Christmas packages. Although physicians
reached the home a few minutes after Mrs. McCormick summoned them
they said that he had died when the heart attack seized him. The
well-known physician during his long career as a dentist had made
a wide circle of friends in all parts of the county and was
favorably known among his associated for his happy disposition.
Dr. McCormick who was 71 was born at Peoria, Illinois the son of
Ralph and Caroline McCormick. When a child he moved to
Springdale, Ohio with his family remaining in that city for
several years. Following his graduation from the Cincinnati
Dental college he was united in marriage to Maude Jane Scudder of
Kyles Station, Ohio in 1884. He took up his residence here
immediately after his marriage coming to Crawfordsville up on the
advice of Ed Voris. Dr. McCormick had for many years attended the
Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church. Those who survive are his
wife, a sister, Mrs. Anna McCormick Hart of this city, two
nieces, Miss Helen Hart of Chicago and Mrs. Edward Hughes of
Detroit, formerly Miss Helen Scudder. A cousin, Mrs. George A.
Ryan of Indianapolis survives. Dr. McCormick was one of 4
children, his twin sister, Jennie passing away at age 5 years. A
brother, Thomas W. McCormick died in infancy. The funeral
services will be conducted at the home on south Washington Street
Sunday afternoon at 2 with burial in Oak Hill. -- typed by kbz
