Wm G. McClure was born Aug. 27, 1845, at Sidney, Ohio. He came to Indiana in 1859. On Oct. 8, 1861, he voluntarily enlisted in the Union Army, in whose services he continued until he was discharged Dec. 14, 1865. January 28, 1868, he was married to Martha E. Chambers, and to them was born ten children, eight of whom survive him. He died Sept. 21, 1897. He was an inveterate reader, a good neighbor, and a patient and affectionate husband and father. For five months he had been a great sufferer from a cancer in his mouth, no doubt, feeling the truth of Lowell’s lines: “Life is the jailer; death the angel sent to draw the unwilling bolts and set us free.” -s

W. G. McClure, a prominent citizen of Mace, died Tuesday afternoon after a long and painful illness. He was 52 years of age and leaves a wife, six daughters and one son. The funeral was conducted on Wednesday at 3 o’clock by the Rev. Mr. Riley. Interment was in the K. of P. Cemetery. Mr. McClure was an excellent citizen and his many friends will be saddened to learn of his sudden demise. He was a soldier and served gallantly in the 57th Indiana regiment. His funeral was under the auspices of the Mace Post of the G. A. R. and several old soldiers from Crawfordsville attended the services -s
