“Pioneer Blacksmith Goes Hence.” – Moses McClure, aside from Wm. Krugg the old man in the county, died at the residence of his son-in-law near Shannondale on Wednesday in the 97th year of his age.  He had lived in Montgomery County since 1824. In 1825 when Crawfordsville had 10 or 12 houses and from 40-50 inhabitants, he established the first blacksmithing and wagon repairing shop in the county.  The shop was on east Main Street opposite where the Robbins House now stands and by a strange coincidence the same ground is occupied by a blacksmithing establishment at this time.  Mr. McClure was an interesting character, and had a fund of pioneer incidents to relate to his acquaintances at all times. He was kind hearted, benevolent and esteemed by all who knew him. Some five years since he joined the Presbyterian Church. A son of his resides near the Junction and other children resides in Franklin Township. - kbz

A particularly sad death of a stranger in a strange land was that of Moes McClure in this city Sunday night. A few weeks ago Mr. McClure purchased the furniture store of Royse & Peavey in the Joel Block.  He had no family, knew no one and lodged in the rear of his business room. About 3 weeks ago he was attacked with neurolgia and gradually grew worse until last Sunday night when death relieved him, no one being present at the time but Jacob Metzger, his nurse. He has a sister living in Indianapolis and a brother in Franklin. His remains were shipped to the latter place on Tuesday. He was about 50 years of age and came to this city from Anderson where he has some property. -kz
