John Richard McCAMPBELL 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. JW McCampbell of RR 1, Marshall died Monday morning at Culver Hospital from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on US 231 four miles south of Crawfordsville shortly after 8 o'clock Sunday night. Investigating officers said that young McCampbell who was riding alone and was headed north, hit an abutment on the west side of the road. He was taken to the hospital where an examination revealed he had sustained a possible brain concussion, bruises of the upper body, a severed wrist artery and other lacerations. The youth who would have been a senior in Waveland HS next fall was an outstanding 4-H member in Parke County. He was enrolled in his 8th year of 4-H work and had completed 20 projects. He had served as a junior 4-H leader for 3 years and was the first winner of the $100 award given by the Rockville Tribune in the outstanding member in the 4-H dairy project. A member of the Byron Guys and Gals Club, he served as secretary of that organization for 3 years as president one and president for two (sic). Born June 3, 1938 in Howard Twp, he was a member of the Waveland Presbyterian Church, the Future farmers of America and the high school band. Surviving besides the parents are a brother, James Lee; two sisters, Delores and Barbara and a grandmother, Mrs. Ruby McCampbell of Marshall. Funeral was conducted at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the Davies Funeral Home, Marshall. The Rev. Richard Huddelson and the Rev. Milo Hinkle officiating and burial in Bethany Cemetery. A 17-year-old youth, John R. McCampbell, Rt 1, Marshall, Ind, was injured Sunday when his car ran off US 231 about four miles south of Crawfordsville and he died early today in a Crawfordsville hospital. He was alone.
