McCalip - Mary Ziegler
Source: Crawfordsville Weekly Journal Friday, 24 November 1899
Mary Catherine Ziegler was born in Bartholomew County, Ind., May 26, 1843, was married to John McCalip, of the same county, Nov. 18, 1861, and died Nov. 18 at her home on South Grant Avenue at 2 a.m., of a nervous trouble, from which she has been a sufferer for some time. Death came very unexpected, as she was able to be up and about the house Friday. She united with the Methodist Church when but sixteen years old, and has ever since lived a consistent Christian life. She leaves behind to mourn her loss a devoted husband and two sisters, and a host of friends. Her children are: Frank and Curtis and Misses Edith and Fanny, of this city, and Ellis, of Nebraska. Each one of these children is testimonial of the Christian mother who reared them. Four little ones preceded her to the spirit world. Mrs. McCalip has been a resident of this city since 1892, having come here from Nebraska, where she and her husband emigrated in 1884 from Bartholomew County. This good woman was one of those neat, tidy, industrious, motherly women, whose highest ambition was to make others happy. She possessed a willing heart and an energetic hand, consequently no act of kindness within her reach was left undone by her. Many an orphan has shared her home. In fact her life was made up of kind deeds and loving words. The heart broken family has the sincere sympathy of everyone. The funeral was held Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock at 212 South Grant Avenue. Rev. Runyan conducted the services. -s
