McARTY, Robert Langford
Robert Langford McARTY, son of Grant and Permelia McArty, was born May 18, 1852 and departed this life December 21, 1916, age 64 years, 7 months and 3 days. August 16, 1877, he was married to Mary E. Owin, who died April 15, 1881. This union was blessed with three children--Ared and Maud, who survive him and one child who died in infancy. On September 7, 1887, he was married to Margaret Jane McCutchan and five children blessed this home -- William, Vawnie Esther, Martha Permelia, Kathryn Irene and Harold Ridpath. All of these survive him except Martha, who past to the great beyond January 10, 1902. Besides those mentioned his wife, four grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Sarah Carrico and a host of friends are left in bereavement. After many weeks of intense suffering he quietly past away without a murmur, and we like to think of him now as being with his Master. While he never affiliated with any particular church he lived up to his belief that the greatest work he could do his Master was thru service to his fellow man. He was a good husband and father, ever keeping the pleasures and comforts of his family in mind, and a helpful neighbor. His great assuming nature won for him the friendship and respect of all with whom he came in contact. His high moral standard and industrious and unselfish habits depict his greatest characteristics. While at present it seem shard to bear, yet it is a comfort to know that he is at last released from the cares and suffering of earthly life and entered into the glorious peace that passeth all understanding. -
