Samuel J. “Sam” McAlister, 34, of 1007 Valley Drive, died at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday at Robert Long Hospital in Indianapolis. It was reported an autopsy showed he died of a massive infection resulting from a cut on his left hand. McAlister cut his hand on a piece of tin last Sunday while working in the basement of his home at 1007 Valley Drive. He entered Culver Hospital early Tuesday and was transferred to Robert Long Hospital later that morning. Mr. McAlister had been employed for about 16 years at the R. R. Donnelley and Sons plant here. He worked in the ink department. Born April 23, 1934, in Crawfordsville, Mr. McAlister was the son of Roland and Marie Hipes McAlister. He married Vera Stewart May 29, 1954, at Crawfordsville. Mr. McAlister was graduated from Crawfordsville High School with the Class of 1953. He served in the National Guard. Surviving are the widow; 13-year-old twin sons, Myron and Marlon, at home; a daughter, Jennifer, 7, also at home; a brother, Roland McAlister of Crawfordsville; two sisters, Mrs. E. J. Dabrowsk of Satellite Beach, Fla., and Mrs. Leslie Gay of Peoria, Ill.; his mother, Mrs. Alfred Nelson of Minneapolis, and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Hunt and Son Funeral Home with Rev. Keith Carlile officiating. Burial will be in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. today. – jlr
