Rev. David P. McClain died Friday morning at 6 o'clock of dropsy at the family residence on West Wabash Avenue. He had been a sufferer for a long time. The funeral occurred from the hom eon Sunday morning at 10 o'clock. Interment at Wesley. David P. McClain was born Sept 11, (or 14, smudged) 1829 at Oxford, Ohio and there grew to manhood. In 1851 he was married to Miss Phila Wooley and in 1852 joined the ME Church. Mr. McClain came to Indiana in 1859 and in 1862 volunteered as a soldier int he war of the rebellion. He served for two years as 1st Lt. in Co. K, 63rd Indiana Regiment, his shattered health necessitating his resignation at that time. In 1870 he entered the ministry and continued in it until 1889, when he took a superannuated relation to the NW Indiana Conference of the ME Church. Mr. McClain filled, during his ministerial career, quite a number of appointments and was highly respected as a pastor. For the past few years his health was miserable and prevented his participation in the active affairs of life. He bore his sufferings patiently and uncomplainingly and in his sickness exemplified that grace he had so effectively preached in times before. He leaves a wife and a family of grown children to mourn his loss. - typed by kbz

Rev. D.P. McClain died at his home in this city at 6 o'clock on Friday morning of dropsy after a lingering illness. Rev. McClain was an able man of great force of character, beloved by many friends. He was born in 1829 in Oxford, Ohio. He was a gallant soldier in the Union Army. Since 1870 he has been in the ministery of the ME Church. SInce 1889 he has been superanuated.
