Mrs. Esther H. May, widow of Dr.
Bertrand E. May, died Thursday evening at the Waldo Nursing Home in Hartford
City, where she had lived the last several years. A native of Crawfordsville,
Mrs. May was a daughter of Francis Arthur and Laura E. Hutton Clement. She was
a Crawfordsville High School graduate and for a time prior to her marriage was
employed in the office of the late Dr. Detchon. She married Dr. May in this
city June 25, 1902. He died July 12, 1953 after many years in practice here as
an osteopath. Dr. May also served a term as mayor. Mrs. May was a member of the
First, Methodist Church and DAR. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Dwight
Flaningam of Marion; two sisters, Mrs. Louis A. Stanford of Crawfordsville and
Mrs. Arthur Thomson of Plymouth; a brother, Arthur Clement of Santa Barbara,
Calif., and two grandchildren, Richard and Carolyn Flaningam. A brother of Mrs.
May died in infancy. Services are announced for 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Bright
Funeral Home. Rev. Hilton Whitaker of the First Methodist Church will officiate
and burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home
at noon Sunday. – jlr
