Darlington – Marion E. Maxwell, 73 of Rt 1, Rockville died at 2 a.m. Tuesday in AMI Culver Union Hospital, Crawfordsville. Mr. Maxwell was born on Sept 13, 1918 in Darlington. He married Phyllis Manning on Nov 4, 1949 in Crawfordsville and she survives. He was a 1936 graduate of Darlington HS and was postmaster at Darlington from 1946-1964. A WWII veteran, he was awarded two silver stars and two bronze stars. He was a member of Darlington Congregational Christian Church, a member and past commander of Darlington American Legion, Eagles Lodge and 40&8. He also belonged to the Rockville American Legion Post and the Masonic Lodge. Mr. Maxwell coached baseball in Darlington for years. Also surviving are three sons: Mark E. Maxwell of New Richmond and John C. Maxwell and Dan Maxwell both of Darlington; a daughter, Janice Pickett of Waynetown; five brothers, Jim Maxwell of Lafayette, Richard M. Maxwell of Colorado; Robert M. Maxwell of Crawfordsville, Darrell Maxwell of Darlington and Donald Maxwell of Colfax; and four sisters, Norma Lane of Anderson, Doris Ellis of West Baden and Katherine Harwood and Carolyn Hunt, both of Crawfordsville.
