Darlington, June 25 --  Funeral services for John Martz, who died at his home in Martinsville Sunday were held at the Lutheran Church four miles east of here, Tuesday afternoon at 1 o'clock. Rev. Montgomery of the Christian Church and Rev. Atkinson of the Presbyterian Church both of Martinsville had charge of the services. A quartet, composed of Bert Bush, Roy Wells, Mrs. Lynn Deck and Mrs. Shirl Evans with Janet Grimes accompanist sang "In the Garden," and "Sometime We'll Understand." Mr. Martz was born in Montgomery County in 1845 and during early life was married to Mary Faust of Darlington. They lived many years on a farm three miles east of Darlington where they raised a family of 9 children, four girls and five boys. In later years they moved to Ladoga.  Mrs. Martz died in 1918. In 1921 he was married again and lived in Martinsville until his death. He had been an active member of the Masonic Lodge many years and was a faithful member of the Presbyterian Church. He leaves to mourn his departure his devoted wife, three daughters and four sons, one daughter and one son having preceded him in death; fourteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, some nieces and a host of friends. Burial was made in the Lutheran Church nearby and the Masons of Darlington had charge of the services. - kbz
