WINGATE — Cecil Martin, 53-year-old World War II veteran and employe of the Perry Lewis Ford firm at Crawfordsville, died at 3 p.m. Sunday in Veterans Hospital at Indianapolis, where he has been a patient the last two weeks. He had been ill during the past year. A native of Summer Shade, Ky., he was a son of Robert and Laura Hurt Martin and was born Sept. 1, 1915. He was married Jan. 1, 1945, to Thelma Page at Summer Shade. Mr. Martin was a graduate of the Jackson Heights School. He was a member of the United Methodist Church at Beaumont, Ky. He served four years in the South Pacific in World War II. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Linda, at home; three brothers, Ovil and Elum of Crawfordsville and Roma of Piper City, Ill., and six sisters, Mrs. Otis Harvey of Fairbury, Ill., Mrs. Thomas Goode of Romney, Mrs. Jessie Harvey of Burlington, Mrs. Lillian Goode of Crawfordsville, Mrs. Will Ed Shelley of Beaumont and Mrs. Ethel Harvey of Summer Shade. Two sisters are deceased. Friends may call at Servies-Thomas Funeral Home in Waynetown at 2-10 p.m. Tuesday, after which the body will be taken to McMurtrey Funeral Home in Summer Shade for services at 2 p.m. (EST) Thursday. Burial will be in Beaumont.
