COVINGTON -- Mrs. Alta Fern Martin, 78, of Covington, died at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Covington Manor where she had been a patient since May. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church and had been a resident of Covington since 1931. Born April 27, 1899, near State Line, she was a daughter of Charles and Hester Deck Ratliff. She married John Macy on Nov. 16, 1918. He died in 1926. She then married Elmer Rickette on May 1, 1939. He died March 13, 1952. Her marriage to Charles Martin was on July 7, 1955. He died March 5, 1971. Surviving are two sons, Russell Macy of Fithian, Ill., and Kenneth Macy of Leominster, Mass.; four brothers, Truman Ratliff of Danville, Ill., Calvin Ratliff of Scottsdale, Ariz., John Ratliff of San Carlos, Calif., and Norman Ratliff of Terre Haute; a sister, Mrs. Mable Hess of Wheaton, Ill.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A son, daughter and brother are deceased. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis Anglin officiating. Burial will be in Stearns Cemetery at Fithian, Ill. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Sunday. --typed by Walt W
