Manners - Barbara White

Mrs. Barbara Manners the widow of the late Dr. George Manners, of New Richmond, died last night at her home at the advanced age of 78 years. Her death resulted from erysipelas and of necessity the funeral was conducted this afternoon the remains being brought to Oak Hill cemetery. Mrs. Manners was born in Ohio September 9, 1823 and was married to Dr. Manners June 21, 1846. They were among the wealthiest and most prominent citizens of that section and especially active in church work. They had no children of their own but raised several giving them all advantages of a splendid home and higher education. Some years before his death Dr. Manners endowed a chair in DePauw university.

Mrs. George Manners, aged seventy seven years, died Tuesday night at the home of James Tribby near New Richmond and was buried Wednesday morning, the funeral taking place at the M. E. Church in New Richmond. Mrs. Manners was a native of Ohio but had lived for many years in this county. Her husband was a leading citizen of the county for many years and was benevolently inclined. He gave $25,000 at one time to DePauw University and it is understood that Mrs. Manners’ estate is left to charitable institutions. -s
