Source: Crawfordsville Journal, August 12, 1909:

Ladoga, Aug. 12 -- Dr. J. H. Mahorney died at his home two miles north of this place at ten o'clock this morning as a result of injuries received in a runaway accident on Tuesday evening. A scared colt kicked him a terrific blow in the stomach and caused peritonitis. He has been gradually growing worse and at midnight last night was in a critical condition. Dr. Mahorney was about sixty years of age and had practiced medicine in Clark Township for many years. He was one of the county's leading citizens and had the respect of all who knew him. Perry Mahorney who was hurt at the same time, having his leg broken besides being badly bruised all over his body, is improving and the prospects for his recovery are excellent at this time.- kbz
