COVINGTON - Mrs. Ruby Maffitt, 80, former resident of the Covington-Danville, Ill., area, died Tuesday evening at Kissimmee, Fla., after being ill since last Friday. She worked for the Sugar Creek Creamery at Danville for 23 years before moving to Florida in 1948 where she worked for the Dade County Board of Public Instruction for 13 years. She retired in 1966. Mrs. Maffitt was a member of Lakeside Chapter, Order of Eastern Star at Miami, Fla. Born Oct. 1, 1895, at Deactur, Ill., she was a daughter of Maurice M. and Blanche Claypool Young. The family moved to a farm east of Covington in 1906. She married Earl M. Maffitt on Nov. 11, 1922. He survives. Also surviving is a brother, William C. Young of Covington; and four sisters, Elva Hornaday and Clara Ratcliff of Covington, Myra Coffing of Newtown and Lucille Cunningham of Wallace. A brother and sister are deceased. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in DeVerter Funeral Home at Covington with the Rev. Robert H. Miller officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. - jlr
