Darlington – Ales Luther Maxwell, 84, a retired employee of Penn Central Railroad and the State Highway Department, died at 8:36 a.m. Monday in Culver Hospital. He had been hospitalized four days. Mr. Maxwell, a resident of Darlington, was born near Bowers. He worked for the railroad for 30 years before retiring. He later worked for the highway department, retiring in 1968. In 1914 he was married to Susie F. Dowden, who died in 1955. He was a member of the Congregational Christian Church. Surviving are six daughters: Mary Rodgers of Michigan City; Dorris Ellis of French Lick; Lois Vancleave and Kathryn Harwood, both of Yountsville; Norma Lane of Anderson and Carolyn Hunt of Crawfordsville; and 9 sons: James A. and Richard F. Maxwell, both of Lafayette; Marion E. and J. Darrell Maxwell both of Crawfordsville. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Carrie Horine of Anderson and Mrs. Amy Hulvey of Darlington and three brothers, Jack and Ralph Maxwell, both of Darlington and Lawrence Maxwell of Anderson.
