Harold J. Manges, 87, Crawfordsville, died Wednesday. Mr. Manges retired from the U.S. Post Office.
He served as captain in the Air Force during World War II. He
served two years in North Africa, Sardinia and Corsica. He was
awarded the Air Medal with eight oak leaf clusters and a
Distinguished Flying Cross.
He was a member of St. Clare's Hospital Auxiliary, a red coat
for 17 years, a 60-year member of American Legion Post 72 and
Whitesville Christian Church. He was a Crawfordsville High School
graduate.
He was born May 1, 1917, at Montgomery County, to Edgar and
Nellie Manges. He married Mary F. Shepherd June 18, 1950. She
died in October 2000.
Survivors include one daughter, Terri Lange, Woodstock, Ga.;
one son, James, Crawfordsville; one brother, William,
Crawfordsville; one stepbrother, George Rager; and one
grandson.
A memorial service is scheduled noon Saturday in Whitesville
Christian Church.
