NEW RICHMOND — Wilbert Lyon, 88, retired mechanic and resident of this area all his life, died at 2:30 a.m. Friday at his home here. He was born in the Mt. Pleasant neighborhood Dec. 2, 1881, a son of William and Emma Simms Lyon. He attended the Round Hill school and was a member of Mt. Pleasant Church. Mr. Lyon was a carpenter 14 years, then New Richmond's first auto mechanic. He had a hobby of repairing violins. He was married to Maude Royer on Nov. 2, 1902. She died Aug. 12, 1967. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Elsie Harwood of Rt. 6, Crawfordsville, and Mrs. Mary Muster of Riverside, Calif.; three sons, Monroe of Rt. 6, Crawfordsville, Arthur of Crawfordsville and Claude of New Richmond; 10 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, and a brother, Ora of Rt. 4, Crawfordsville. Preceding Mr. Lyon in death were a son, Emerson; a grandson, a great-granddaughter and two infant sisters. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Helms Funeral Home in Linden. Rev. Dale Sesler will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery on Rt. 6, Crawfordsville. Friends may call after noon Sunday at the funeral home.
