Luckett - Mary
Source: Crawfordsville Review Sept 6, 1907
One more good woman has passed away from all earthly scenes. Mrs. Mary J. Luckett, wife of S. R. Luckett, of this city passed away at half past three o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the home of her son, Bruce Luckett in Whitlock Place. Her death was due to a sudden and violent attack of flux of one week's duration. The end was calm, peaceful and serene, as were all her days of sickness. Mrs. Luckett was born in Shenandoah County, Virginia March 14, 1830 but the principal part of her life was spent in Indiana. She was 77 years of age at the time of her death. Of the six children born to her, five have preceded her in death. Her only living child is Bruce Luckett. Her husband also survives. She leaves two sisters and other relatives, less near, and many loving friends to mourn her departure. Her last daughter, Jessie died 24 years ago at the age of 24 and now the mother, who loved the daughter so well, will rest with her in Death's dreamless sleep in beautiful Oak Hill cemetery. Funeral services will be held at the Primitive Baptist Meeting House at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon, conducted by Elder J.H. Oliphant. For almost half a center Mrs. Luckett was a devoted member of the Primitive Baptist Church - a true follower of Him who was meek and lowly in heart, and who, whether in life or in death, had not where to lay His head. Thus it was that the sweetest simplicity and sincerity of heart and conduct were the ornaments of her long and spotless life. So the respect due to her memory calls for the same plainness and simplicity in the obsequies yet to be performed. It will therefore be in harmony with this that no flowers decorate her casket, though no one more than herself would have appreciated the spirit and kindness of heart that would offer them. Her heart was full of love for all that was good, noble and refined, and her pure and worthy life will be a shining example to the friends and kindred that are left. The memory of 54 years of married life, as happy as God ever gives, is a heritage the bereaved writer holds as above gold or ... that memory will be his solace, till he too shall be summoned to that .. covered country from which no traveler has ever yet returned...
