Long - Agnes Thompson

Mrs. Agnes Thompson Long, 78 a member of one of Crawfordsville's most prominent families, died at 10:15 a.m. Monday in her apartment at the Crawford Hotel where she had been seriously ill several months. Born May 23, 1880 in Crawfordsville, Mrs. Long was the daughter of Maurice Thompson and Alice Lee Thompson. Her father was the author of Alice of Old Vincennes and other noteworthy writings prior to the turn of the century. Mrs. Long married Austin H. Long at the Presbyterian Church in Crawfordsville on Nov 16, 1904. They began housekeeping in this city but moved to Kankakee, Ill in 1905. Later they moved to Chicago and then to Dubuque, Iowa where Mr. Long was general sales manager of the Klauer Manufacturing Co for 25 years. Mr. and Mrs. Long returned to Crawfordsville 3 years ago and had made their home at the Crawford Hotel since. Mrs. Long attended the Crawfordsville HS. Survivors include the husband, who is still associated with the Klauer Manufacturing Co. of Dubuque an a nephew, J. Lee Ballard, president of the Gulf Beach Bank of St. Petersburg, FL. She was preceded in death by a brother and sister. Private graveside rites will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery at 11 a.m. Thursday, Rev. John DeKruyter, pastor of the Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church will be the officiating minister. Friends may call at the Bright Funeral Home, beginning at noon Wednesday. - kbz
