Long - Austin

Austin H. Long, 81, Crawford Hotel died at 6:05
p.m. Saturday in Culver Hospital after an illness of several weeks. He
was a native of Crawfordsville, born Jan 4, 1880 to David Lansing and
Viola Reynolds Long, and was educated in the local schools and graduated
in 1902 from Wabash College. Mr. Long was married here November 16,
1904 to Agnes Thompson. She preceded him in death April 27, 1959. He was
a member of the Presbyterian Church. Mr. Long, who lived in his youth
with his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. James H. Watson was employed by
his uncle in the latter's shop manufacturing sheet metal products. When
Mr. Watson died his nephew began operating the business at the age of
19. He moved it to Kankakee, Ill in 1906 and sold it four years later.
He became connected with the Klauer Manufacturing company in Chicago and
later was with the same firm in Dubuque Iowa returning to Crawfordsville
in 1956. Surviving is a niece, Mrs. OJ Keiffer of Barbaboo, Wis.
Private graveside rites are set for 11 a.m. Tuesday in Oak Hill Cemetery
with Dr. John G. DeKruyter of the Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church
officiating. Friends may call after 7 p.m. Monday at the Bright Funeral
Home.
